Empowering the Girl Child: A Personal Mission
My motivation stems from my own life story, where the strengths of the girl child were often overlooked. During my basic education, I had little guidance or motivation. I was made to believe that my weakness in Mathematics meant I had limited options for tertiary education, despite excelling in other subjects. I was advised to pursue an academic program at the senior high school level which was not aligned with my aspirations. This advice hindered my confidence in pursuing my dream academic program. However, my experience fuelled my greatest desire: to ensure that girls are encouraged to improve on their weaknesses, harness their strengths, and believe in their limitless potential.
Transformative Experiences Through WC4E
Joining WC4E has been a pivotal moment in my journey. The training sessions and meetings I participated in during the fellowship exposed me to invaluable lessons. I learned how to structure my initiative effectively, mobilize resources, and foster community partnerships. Through collaboration with other fellows, I gained fresh ideas and adopted best practices that the other fellows were using in their initiatives in their respective regions. The mentorship opportunities were especially impactful, enabling me to share my goals and receive constructive feedback, both for my initiative and my academic pursuits. My journey with WC4E significantly shaped my approach to championing girl child education.
New Beginnings and Aspirations
After six years of studying in Ghana's Central Region, I have relocated to the Northern Region, where I now work as an administrator in a nonprofit organization. This new role aligns with my commitment to making a difference in underserved communities. I am also pursuing my MPhil studies and have strong hopes of attaining my doctorate degree so as to empower myself more as an educationist and a champion for the development of girl child education. I hope to strengthen the activities of my initiative to set up a network for young girls in Northern region, Tamale where I work currently.
