Grace Amponsah

Grace envisions a world where all girls have adequate resources to unleash their full potential. Coming from an economically disadvantaged background, education has been a major tool for Grace in breaking through limitations, and thus her greatest desire is to see girls and youth excel through similar opportunities. In the long term, she would like to be a global policy maker who uses girls' education as a tool to eradicate poverty in Africa.

That is why she runs the Bowney Initiative, an organization that supports adolescent girls to reach their educational and career goals through leadership training, mentorship, financial support, and entrepreneurship. With 120 girls in the program, Grace not only facilitates programming but also interacts with stakeholders to generate donor interest. Grace hopes that, with support from Empowered to Educate, the organization can achieve its goal of reaching 3000 girls, financially support 50 in school, and build five libraries in the next 3 years.

Grace holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Ashesi University and is currently enrolled as a Schwarzman Scholar to pursue a Masters Degree in Global Affairs at Tsinghua University starting August 2020. Before the Bowney Initiative, she worked as a business strategist at an IT startup firm and assisted Entrepreneurship faculty at Ashesi University to conduct yearlong business simulations with Freshmen students.
