Portia Dumba
Portia Dumba envisions a world where every child, regardless of background, has access to quality education. As someone deeply passionate about empowering girls and women, she knows firsthand the transformative power of education in overcoming adversity. Portia holds a diploma from Nusrat Jahan Ahmadiyya College of Education and a degree from the University of Cape Coast, being the first in her mother's children to achieve this level of academic success.
As a dedicated professional teacher in the rural community of Damangori, Portia was initially the sole educator at her school. Seeing her students come to school in worn-out clothes and lacking basic necessities, she used her own funds to mend uniforms and provide books, constantly seeking ways to empower her students. In response to the economic challenges faced by women in her community, Portia founded Porducare Enterprise, a social enterprise focused on improving the livelihoods of women involved in shea butter production. Through Porducare, she provides training in improved processing techniques and connects women directly to markets, enabling them to earn sustainable incomes.
Recognizing broader community needs, Portia established Porducare TouchLife, an NGO that channels profits from Porducare Enterprise to support underprivileged students with educational materials and other essential resources. This initiative ensures that students can pursue their education without barriers. Portia also advocates for environmental sustainability, understanding how climate change impacts rural livelihoods. She encourages using Shea Cake as an alternative fuel to reduce deforestation and promotes tree planting and environmental awareness through advocacy. Through her participation in the Women Changemakers for Education program, Portia seeks to expand her impact by empowering more girls, supporting women in entrepreneurship, and creating sustainable solutions for her community.
