Ama Frimpomaa Oware
Ama strives for a world where women lead and decide through education and progressive development. With reference and inspiration from her single mother, Ama’s zeal to excel in higher education emphasizes the impact of educating young girls from low-income backgrounds as a key to unlocking opportunities. For the long-term, Ama aims to earn a PhD in Women and Gender related studies, using research and professional contributions to inform policies in promoting equality and social inclusion in Ghana and beyond.
This explains her initiative- “Empower One Mentorship Initiative” which originally started as “Mentors in the classroom” that empower and increase women representation in higher education through mentorship, leadership development and networking opportunities to girls from low income families in second cycle institutions. With this approach, she facilitates one on one and focus group sessions via digital and face to face sessions with girls as a mentor. Ama envisions that, with support from Women Change-makers for Education, her initiative can achieve its goal of supporting 100 mentees with experienced mentors annually, conducting semester based workshops and training sessions, to achieve a 75% retention, transition and graduation rate into STEM related programs in higher institutions and career paths among mentees within three years.
