Saraswati believes that one can make only as much influence as one has been influenced, thus she dedicates her time to being a mentor who drives change in remote communities. With support from Empowered to Educate, she hopes to maximize her organization’s impact by transforming The Reading Factory into a literacy app available across Ghana. 

 

Saraswati is a team leader for The Reading Factory, a non-profit dedicated to bridging the gap between rural and urban schools in Ghana by establishing literacy clubs and public libraries in deprived communities. Saraswati has coached over 15 teachers in 7 schools on creative methods to engage students, led a team in attracting 2 investors, and impacted the lives of over 500 students. Saraswati’s hard work contributed to The Reading Factory earning the Best Literacy Idea award in the 2018 Teacher Innovation Competition.

At her other organization, Right To Play, Saraswati coached and trained over 200 teachers on the play-based approach to learning and developed learner plans as evidence-based documents for the Ministry of Education. Saraswati also tutored rural students in English for Lead for Ghana. Through her tutoring, she fueled engagement in education, built students’ leadership capacities, and developed creative teaching methodologies. One of Saraswati’s greatest accomplishments was spearheading the decision to renovate Sakasaka Junior High School’s storeroom into a multi-functional library, improving the reading culture of over 500 students.
